Traveller RPG Mayday Mayday 2022

When: Sunday, May 1st, 2022

Started: 10:00 am Mountain Time

Where: The event was hosted on the CyborgPrime Discord server and simulcast to the CyborgPrime YouTube and CyborgPrime Twitch channels.

What: Traveller Mayday Mayday is a virtual gaming convention that takes place on May 1st. It is a day for honoring the history and future of the Traveller science-fiction roleplaying game, including its editions, descendants, creators, players, referees, and community.

Players could join a game or host a game as a GM in a virtual tabletop from the comfort of home.

The games were hosted by Virtual Traveller and scheduled through Tabletop Events.

GMs Needed

Game Masters were invited to run games across the Mayday weekend, with flexible start times and online play options.

Gaming Without Limits

Unlike a brick-and-mortar convention, the virtual format was not limited by room size, table count, or physical venue constraints. Referees and players could choose games, times, and formats that worked for them.

Players were encouraged to watch for overlapping game times when choosing which games to join.

Traveller For Charity

The Third Annual Charity Traveller game benefited The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation.

Referee Patrick Kanouse and players from Two Brothers Gaming, High Shelf Collective, and The Death Die Club played Prison Planet.

Our intrepid adventurers found themselves afoul of the law and imprisoned at the Imperial prison Tarkwall on the planet of Keanou. Could they escape? Would the prison’s mines, gangs, or hostile environment spell their doom?

The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation’s mission is to increase awareness and educate the general public and healthcare professionals regarding carcinoid and related neuroendocrine tumors, to support NET cancer patients and their families, and to serve as patient advocates.

The game streamed on the High Shelf Collective Twitch channel.

Ad Astra Games demonstrated Squadron Strike, a 3D online Traveller starship combat simulator.

Players could fly ships on a 3D map, plot courses, fire weapons, and see the positions of the ships at the end of each turn.

Squadron Strike is a turn-based 3D space combat simulator that runs in a browser. It can model ships from many settings and fight in a 3D virtual space that conveys ship position and heading.

After-hours Hangout

Artists, programmers, Traveller fans, and other members of the community gathered in the after-hours hangout on Discord.

Carousing Competition

“Carousing is the art of socialising; having fun, but also ensuring other people have fun, and infectious good humour. It also covers social awareness and subterfuge in such situations.”

The challenge:

Participants were invited to create a Traveller-themed poem, joke, song, limerick, riddle, or very short story and present it during Mayday.

Entries were judged by a panel, and the winner received a prize.


Player Discussion Panel

Our volunteer crew of Traveller players held a live panel discussion during the event.

They made wisecracks, shared insights, and discussed their experiences playing the game we all love.
